St. Patrick's Day Morning Latte

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other single-day holiday, despite the Irish association. It seems that the theme of wearing green, drinking excessively, and spending time with your friends is universally popular! But what makes St. Patrick’s so special to Americans? Let’s take a closer look at the history of this celebration.

History of St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day began on March 17, 1631 to commemorate Ireland’s favorite saint, Saint Patrick. The traditions of St. Patrick’s Day made their way to America with the influx of Irish immigrants in the early 1800s. However, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world was held in Florida in 1737. Since then, the holiday has evolved into a fun, alcohol filled celebration for people of all nationalities.

American’s Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Most Americans choose to celebrate by wearing green, eating Irish food (such as cabbage or corned beef), pinching people who do not wear green, getting drunk, drinking green beer (or coffee!), or attending a parade. There are many ways to celebrate on March 17th, but spicing up your coffee drink is a great way to start! You can always add a couple drops of green food coloring to your morning coffee…or you could try some of these tasty coffee treats to celebrate.
